The NBG basic training certification is aimed at providing basic skills to executive coaches to use in their coaching practices.  All executive coaches, management trainers, and anyone to whom people development is important are invited to apply to the program.  NBG is highly selective in its membership and only those coaches who have demonstrated significant experience in the aforementioned fields will be invited to apply.  The cost of the course is $2,550.00 including materials, teaching, and assessment tools.  To become basic NBG members, attendees must also pass a test with 90% or above and have demonstrated expertise in the form of three testimonials.

Program Outline

Day 1

  • Introduction, Overview and New Ideas on the Horizon
  • Introduction and overview of neuroscience as it applies to the executive environment
  • Review of issues of relevance to executives in the area of change: e.g. grooming new leaders and transformational leadership, dealing with layoffs and restructuring, 
outsourcing and ‘mergers and acquisitions’ and how neuroscience applies to 
this
  • The Coach as Change Agent: From Process and Content to Implementation of Change
  • Current psychological models of change
  • Overview of the integration of neuroscientific and psychological models of change with 
coaching skills
  • Exercises and feedback

Day 2

  • Moving from Overview to Specifics
  • Neuroscience of commitment: application to coaching
  • Getting to action orientation using neuroscience: application to coaching
  • More details on neuroplasticity: so what if the brain can change?
  • Neurobiology of task-switching: concepts relevant to coaching
  • Conversations that keep people stuck: applications of neuroscience
  • Re-positioning yourself and your clients through coaching conversations: applications 
of neuroscience
  • Overview and summary of the day’s learning
  • Exercises and feedback

Day 3

  • More Specifics and Moving to Immediate Application
  • The behavior changes that cause viral changes in all spheres of life: applications of neuroscience
  • Neuroscience of memory in change: applications to coaching
  • Neuroscience of action in change: applications to coaching
  • Neuroscience of emotion in change: applications to coaching
  • Pulling things together: Review of new core coaching skills and how neuroscience can 
be applied
  • Neuroscientific language nuggets as they relate to change
  • Overview of principles of immediate application of science and skills learned

Advanced Training Certification
May 10-11, 2012

NBG Members who have completed the NBG Basic Training are eligible for application to the advanced program.  For May 2012, only 20 qualified members will be admitted to the Advanced Certification Program.  To be admitted to this program, members must have achieved a score of 90% or higher on the basic certification test which tests the ability to apply the coaching skills learned to executive coaching.  In addition, members who are admitted to the advanced program also have to have a proven track record of success in executive coaching OR have significant accomplishments with organizations with regard to training and managing a group of employees or in a related area of people development.  The cost of the course is $2,000 including materials, teaching, and assessment tools.

  • More detailed examination/exercises on NBG coaching protocol and tools
  • Neuroscience of creativity: application to coaching
  • Neuroscience of innovation: application to coaching
  • Exercises: application of creativity and innovation
  • Feedback and discussion
  • Expert coach demonstrations of core concepts and learning review

Day 2

  • Review of Pre-work and Feedback from Basic Participants
  • Team alignment:  core neuroscientific concepts applied to coaching
  • Team alignment exercises
  • Feedback and discussion on team alignment procedures
  • Executive “neurosyndromes”: application to coaching
  • Neurosyndrome exercise, test and review: part 1 (part 2 is online)
  • Consolidation group exercise on brain-targeted coaching
  • Feedback and discussion on exercise
  • Review and follow-up plan for immediate implementation of NBG methods
