How can neuroscience be applied to executive coaching?
Business contains people. People contain brains. Changing the behavior of people is therefore augmented by having an understanding of how brains work. Current best practices of coaching are based on external behaviors. To date, brain imaging has provided a wealth of information about how external behavior correlates with brain function. Coaching can therefore take advantage of this wealth of knowledge to apply to changes within corporations.
Furthermore, current coaching relies on interventions that appear to be psychologically sound. But what if these “logical” interventions are not aligned with how the brain functions? The field of neuro-coaching is in its infancy. As such, there is a huge range of applications ranging from the hypothetical to research-based applications. The Neuro-Coaching Center has devised practical and immediately applicable strategies based on neuroscience that are research-based. In so doing, coaches can apply these principles to their specific coaching situations.
Some issues of relevance to coaches that are highlighted in the courses that are offered are:
1. How do the conscious and unconscious brains of executives work together or against each other?
2. What specific language can be used in the coaching environment that will not be too technical and add to the existing language of coaching?
3. How can you integrate neuroscience into a coaching plan?
4. What are some of the cutting-edge applications of neuroscience?
5. How can coaches develop specific competencies in coaching that do not just employ a standard but transcend a standard?
The courses offered through the Neuro-Coaching Center will be tailored to the specific subjects and aimed to be content-rich, interactive, dynamic and catalytic.
